Accessibility Information
We at the Dorset Theatre Festival pride ourselves on providing as many accessibility opportunities as possible in our historic playhouse.
Parking
Two parking lots are available for playhouse guests: one directly in front of the playhouse and another adjacent to the building. Both lots include designated accessible parking spaces, providing convenient access to the entrance.
Stairs
Inside the theater, seating from Row K forward is accessed by steps leading down into the auditorium. If your seats are in the front section, an elevator located next to the box office provides accessible access to those rows for your convenience.
Audio Listening Devices
Assistive listening devices are available free of charge to enhance the audio during performances. Devices may be checked out at the box office before the show and require an ID to hold until the device is returned. For the best listening experience, these devices work most effectively between Rows E and K and in seats that are at least two seats in from the side walls.
T-Coil
Guests with hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with a telecoil (T-coil) can connect directly to our assistive listening system for clear, amplified sound during performances. For the best listening experience, our T-coil works most effectively between Rows E and K and in seats that are at least two seats in from the side walls.
Wheelchair Accessible Seats
We offer four designated wheelchair-accessible seating locations throughout the theater. The wheelchair spaces in the rear section of the auditorium are open spaces that provide easy access for guests using wheelchairs. In the front side sections, guests may access this area via stairs or elevator, and may either remain in their wheelchair or transfer to a theater seat, depending on their preference. To provide additional room and comfort, the seats adjacent to the wheelchair-accessible spaces in Row C are not sold.
Wide Seats
The playhouse features several historic extra-wide seats that were originally designed as couples' seating and are now sold as individual seats. These seats are indicated by a darker color on our seating chart and provide additional width and personal space, offering a more comfortable option for guests who prefer extra room.
