THE 2021 SEASON IS ANNOUNCED!

The world has changed, but we are more committed than ever to nurturing new plays and playwrights that are groundbreaking, authentic and celebrate our common humanity, and we will be back this summer with theatre that matters in Southern Vermont.

Live Performances Returning to Southern Vermont

You can expect a season that looks very different from what you’ve seen in the past, but we hope you will join us on this journey as we navigate this exciting new adventure. In a dark time for live theatre, we are grateful to have an opportunity to evolve and continue honoring our mission with a hybrid season of world premiere audio plays, and socially distant live performances. In order to bring audiences together again we will be following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the VT Department of Health, but in some cases they must also adhere to more strict guidelines set by professional artists’ unions.

Dorset Theatre Festival's artistic director, Dina Janis, joined Susanna Gellert from Weston Playhouse Theatre Company via Zoom to discuss the return of live performances in Southern Vermont this summer.

Safety will be the priority for our artists and staff, and for the audience. We are working with Actors’ Equity Association and other artist unions to develop a safety plan that will need to be approved before rehearsals can begin in June. Everyday we are learning something new, or waiting for updated guidance, but we believe in community, and if we can do so safely, there is an immediate need to bring our community together this summer.
— Dina Janis, Artistic Director
