In 1926, 30 year-old Theophilus quits his job as a schoolteacher to see the world. Until his used car breaks down in the affluent town of Newport, Rhode Island. There he spends a summer intervening in the lives of its residents, hoping to make a difference – but will they return the favor? Dulcy is determined to help her husband save his fake pearl business, and over the course of a weekend she knows she can get him more than the sixteen and two-thirds percent he’s been promised by old Forbes in a merger. But encouraging Forbes’ daughter to elope with a silent film writer, inviting a millionaire with a secret, and hiring a butler out of Sing Sing probably won’t make things easy! A hilarious Jazz-age comedy, the first play in DTF’s ambitious new endeavor THE KAUFMAN COLLECTION, in which we’ll bring one of the American master’s works to life every summer!
